If you're an international student,GT's AE department mightNov 01 2014Aerospace Engineering
If you're an international student,GT's AE department might not be the best fit since a lot of the research is funded by NASA and DoE etc. and only citizens get to work on these projects.

The top faculty members are usually self-absorbed and I've personally encountered a lot of broken-spirits on campus.Suicide rates are also fairly high in this school.

Question
Iranian post graduateFeb 08 2014Unknown
Iranian post graduate had a post superbowl Chinese new year party in his apartment. He was making his gasoline tin foil etc in a bottle throwing them off his balcony. The outcome news was burned all over his body and of course missed the official opening of our winter Olympics in Russia.
Question
GT is an excellent school! Not only areJun 24 2012Computer Science
GT is an excellent school! Not only are the CS courses and professors helpful but even on my first day all the other professors were helpful when I didn't know where to go. The rooming is great with nice rooms ,but you can't really choose your own roommate until you pay. The eating places aren't all the good but they work. there is a lot of work to do to but what college doesn't give work. The social life is great and it's perfectly located in Atlanta and the other students are friendly. theft isn't a problem if you don't walk with all of your EXPENSIVE EQUIMPMENT OUT IN THE OPEN AND LEAVE THEM SITTING PLACES UNATTENED!
Question

While the faculty in my program seems good, the administration in both the program and the school seem incompetent.
Question
Love it hereOct 01 2007Mechanical Engineering
Love it here. Academically stimulating and challenging, to say the least. Gives a sense of confidence knowing that I am prepared to enter the work world with a top-notch education from a top level research institution.

Was a great learningAug 15 2007Business - Management and Administration
Was a great learning experience. The faculty was very available, and the small class size was a pleasure. You knew all your classmates by semester 1. Classes were hard, a lot of work, but doable.
Question
Georgia Tech is an institute of higher learningMar 13 2007Electrical Engineering
Georgia Tech is an institute of higher learning (with regards to engineering and technology predominantly). People who come here should accept this fact and be very sure they understand this. If one is looking to have a good time, be around women you actually want to look at (not turn away from), have walks in the park, then this is not the campus or university for you. If you set your expectations right, you won't be as depressed and bitter. Also, invest in a car, and drive around the Atlanta area once in a while - it will energize you greatly.
Question
The department is small and strugling to achieveSep 01 2006Physics
The department is small and strugling to achieve. If you find your niche it will be a good place. But in general there are many bad things, no much money for RA, so manly you will have to do TA work with the subsequent waste of time. The department is highly burocratic. The grad students are underestimated by many of the Faculty. And in many aspects your success (in terms of grades) will be based on knowing the system more than in knowing physics. If you want a good place to share and grow with your fellow physicists, this is not the place for you.
Question
I attended Tech as an undergrad, and workedDec 19 2005Chemical Engineering
I attended Tech as an undergrad, and worked in industry for four years before returning back to Georgia Tech for my PhD. While the school is challenging, I think that it is no more difficult that senior level undergradate classwork as far as classes are concerned. There were some problems with people not getting their first choice advisors, however 70% of students get first or second choice advisors. The first year is exhauting with lots of classes and phD qualifing exams are at the beginning of your second semester, so they cram everything in pretty quick. Tech has an emphasis on obtaining mature students, don't come here if you expect to be babysat... they won't do it, and you probably won't be happy here if that is what you expect. Both as an undergrad and I am sure as a phD the hard work does pay off and is well respected externally.
Question
Just dont go hereApr 12 2005Aerospace Engineering
Just dont go here. While the academics are for some reason respected everything else here pretty much sucks. First off Atlanta is a waste, its dirty, the air and water are horrible, the roads are poor, traffic is hell, theres nothing to do and the campus is situated in a ghetto.

There is no social life on campus. It is a dry campus, like some mormon colleges. People put a criminalized attitude to drinking in youre dorm room with the door closed(if the door is open you can get kicked out of housing)(this is the only type of drinking allowed on campus). The people (mostly males and a few ugly females...i call them like i see them) are socially inept. Little to no dating takes place here.

I did my undergraduate work here too. Since then as a grad student I have met many people that went elsewhere for undergrad...never has one liked it here or failed to complain about the social life on campus. In summary I hate it here, I will always be bitter and absolutley blame georgia tech for stealing my college years from me. Please...if you are thinkign about coming here, visit and ask about the parking department, the housing department and really try to see past the planned activities that Im sure Faset will have ready for you. Dont fall into the same death trap I did.

I wouldn't reccommend GT for undergradsJul 15 2003Psychology
I wouldn't reccommend GT for undergrads... it sounds like a nightmare, but for grad school in psychology the faculty are highly qualified and committed to giving you a quality education. Everywhere I go people comment on how well I know my area etc etc and it is because of the training (and yes, the pain :-) ) of GT.
