Medical College of Wisconsin

Are you preparing for your first high school science laboratory? Have you felt uncomfortable and nervous in lab classes because you didn’t know simple techniques? Build basic laboratory skills in measurement, purifications, identification, and data analysis while using standard lab equipment like balances, centrifuges, pipettes, and microscopes. This knowledge will prepare you for high school laboratory courses, and introduce you to some of the basic techniques used in research today. Maximum 24 students. Upward Bound at UW-La Crosse serves students from Jackson, Monroe and La Crosse counties in Wisconsin. Eligibility is determined by federal guidelines for parent education levels and family income. Forensics is the use of science to support the law. In this summer’s non-credit experience, students will have the opportunity to learn the techniques used by forensic scientists around the country. Some of the techniques they will learn include: DNA fingerprinting, processing evidence in a crime scene, arson investigation, and trace evidence gathering.
