What is a Nutritionist

A nutritionist is a person who advises on matters of food and nutrition impacts on health. Different professional terms are used in different countries, employment settings and contexts — some examples include: nutrition scientist, public health nutritionist, dietitian-nutritionist, clinical nutritionist, and sports nutritionist.

Education in Nutrition

Nutritionist typically attend school for 4 years to obtain their bachelors degree in nutrition science. Graduate and post graduate programs are also available to individuals wishing to continue their education in nutrition science. Some nutritional certifications require that an individual hold a masters degree.

During your studies in nutrition you will take courses in biology, chemistry, social sciences, humanities and nutritional sciences.

A degree in nutritional sciences is a great way to get in to the health care industry. Individuals who complete their degrees in nutritional sciences go on to medical school and dental school.
