What is Fashion Design Really?

The theory of fashion design is that you keep in mind what the consumer wants—both aesthetically and fiscally—while creating garments that express your artistic vision.What is it used for?
Fashion design can be applied to a multitude of fields, however most schools train students on how to design, create and manage clothing and clothing companies. Students learn how to take a concept and translate it to a specific market, how to create such a 3 Dimensional Form and how to run a clothing business.What does the major actually entail - work-wise?
Most curricula have three main components: Illustration, Concept, and Craft. In illustration you learn how to sketch and render clothing designs. In concepts you learn about different markets, who you're selling to and what the consumer wants to buy. In craft you learn how to make garments via sewing machines, thread and fabric among other supplies. In addition to this you'll study art history and business classes.What kind of jobs do you get with it?
Anything clothing related. Fashion Designer, Tailor, Fashion Illustrator, Patternmaker, Sample Maker, Retail Owner, Boutique Owners, Seamstress. Just to name a few.What are the fellow students like (personalitywise) in it?

That it's all about glamor. People come into Fashion Design and think that they can just sketch and not learn how to sew or learn about markets and consumers and that they will succeed. You have to learn to sew, illustrate and design or you will not succeed.
