There is a range of quality as far as professors and classes go, but that is to be expected everywhere. Overall, though, I would say most profs are good at conveying what they know. Here are some of my favorites so far:
-Rohini Ramadas (MATH 0540- Honors Linear Algebra)
-Bjorn Sandstede (APMA 0350- Applied Ordinary Differential Equations)
-Dana Gooley (MUSC 0021J- Stephen Sondheim and the American Musical)
One last thing: beware of the CS department. Many, but not all, of the horrors people experience there are true (the all-nighters, the exhaustion, the never-ending work, the two-hour TA lines, extremely nitpicky grading to the point where it's absurd, other miscellaneous things that stand in the way of success in classes but do NOT contribute to computer science knowledge, etc.). Computer science is not for the faint of heart, and not for those with no CS experience beforehand. Further, the lack of competence of some of the people associated with the department makes it even harder to get something out of computer science classes. My experience with this department is, by far, my most negative experience with the university. Also, I recommend to anyone considering CS to take the CS 15/16 sequence rather than the 17/18 sequence or the CS 19 course- CS 15, in particular, is of a MUCH higher quality than the rest of the listed courses (I took CS 17).

Just felt I had to add that- all in all, though, Brown is a really great place to be.

Incredible people, incredible programs, incredible place to spend 4 years. Providence is great for 4 years, no more probably. Everyone at Brown is open minded, incredibly approachable and nice, and so so interesting. The only part about Brown I don't love is the financial aid department. There's always so much going on on campus you'll never be bored or out of options. I expected fantastic but it's more mediocre and not too different from the schools my friends go to. I kind of feel like I'll be scamming prospective employers because they will think I got a better education than I actually did. I made good friends, good people with good hearts, but Providence can be real sketchy at night. All in all, not what I expected. Not much drive among students here since there are really no graduation requirements. Pretty easy to get through, but tough to get a job because students are not qualified for anything. Good for the entitled set who don't have to worry and can suck on the family for the rest of their lives. Mon, 06 Oct 2014 08:36:32 GMT http://www.studentsreview.com/RI/BU_comments.html
